Zimní dobrodružství ve Vídeň a Benátky
Last January ’23, I set out on a winter adventure to explore the stunning cities of Vienna, Austria, and Venice, Italy. To save money on transportation, I opted to travel by Regiojet train from Brno to Vienna airport and then took a budget Ryanair flight to Marco Polo airport in Venice.
Starting with Vienna
The first stop was Vienna, the capital of Austria. After settling into my accommodations with almost 15 euros for one night with five other people in a dorm-style room at St. Christopher’s Vienna hostel, I explored the city’s beautiful architecture and rich history. I was amazed by the grandeur of St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the imperial beauty of the Hofburg Palace. I also strolled through the Schönbrunn Palace gardens, which were beautiful even in the winter.
Now time for ITALY
After staying two days and one night in Vienna, I headed to Venice, Italy. Upon arrival, I went to Mestre and stayed at the AO Hostel 2, paying almost 14 Euro/Night in a shared dorm. The hostel was cosy and comfortable, and the staffs were amicable and accommodating.
One of the highlights of my visit to Venice was trying the local cuisine. I indulged in traditional pasta dishes and fresh seafood, but I also tried some traditional Bangladeshi cuisine, which was a unique and delicious experience. I highly recommend trying the local food when visiting Venice, as it’s an excellent way to immerse yourself in the culture.
Besides, I also visited a charming town named San Donà di Piave, just a short train ride from Venice. The city had a beautiful central square and a lively market, where I picked up some. I also visited Lido Beach, which was peaceful, serene, and a nice break from the bustling city centre. This beach is also suitable for snorkellers and divers, but I couldn’t do anything due to the freezing weather.
Overall, my winter adventure in Vienna & Venice was a wonderful experience. Both cities were rich in culture and history, and I was able to explore and discover so many new things. Vienna and Venice should be on your travel list if you are looking for a winter getaway.
“In the winter, Venice is like an abandoned theatre. The play is finished, but the echoes remain.”
